On July 12, 2025, British time, Qingdao Publishing Group, in collaboration with the Cambridge Chinese School and Taiji Panda, successfully held an animation exchange event for the "Chinese Excellent Traditional Culture Children's Picture Book Series" in the UK. This marked the first time that this series of works was introduced to primary and secondary schools in the UK.
The event used Chinese character animation as an innovative medium, targeting Chinese and British youth audiences. A selection of four episodes from the "Stories of Chinese Characters" series—"Man and Heaven," "Filial Piety and Parents," "Harmony and Unity," and "Family and Country"—was showcased. These episodes, rich in profound Chinese philosophical ideas, vividly displayed the evolution of Chinese characters and conveyed the cultural connotations behind them. The animations not only illustrated the beauty of the form and meaning evolution of Chinese characters but also told stories about the Chinese nation’s sense of family and country, humanistic thoughts, traditional virtues, the "harmony and unity" concept, and the cultural essence behind Chinese characters. Additionally, interactive segments such as Chinese character writing experiences and cultural knowledge quizzes were thoughtfully arranged on-site, allowing British youth to immerse themselves in Chinese culture, feel its warmth and charm, and effectively bridge the emotional gap between Chinese and British young people.
Qingdao Publishing Group has successfully transformed high-quality print content into a full media product matrix, including animations, mobile apps, audio, integrated publications, and large-screen reading products, based on the mature digital publishing system constructed through the "Chinese Excellent Traditional Culture Children's Picture Book Series," a national key publishing project. This event showcases the results of the integrated innovation model, which relies on "the publishing core as the foundation, digital technology as the wings, and international scenes as the stage."
Qingdao Publishing Group has broken cultural barriers through scene-based and digital services, making "Stories of Chinese Characters" a tangible and interactive cultural carrier. It has provided a replicable solution for the "lightweight" and "scene-based" export of Chinese excellent traditional culture, especially content for children. In the future, the Group will continue to focus on its core publishing strengths, deepen the dual-track collaboration of children's book content and digital technology, and expand international communication channels, transmitting the voice of China more broadly and deeply, showcasing Chinese wisdom, telling Chinese stories well, and allowing the world to experience China's warmth and depth.
